Signs of a hidden leak
- A water bill that is higher than usual for no clear reason.
- The water meter still turning with every tap closed.
- Damp patches, bubbling paint or lifting tiles.
- A warm patch on the floor, which can mean a leaking hot water pipe.
- The sound of running water when nothing is on.
A check you can do first
Close every tap and make sure nothing in the house is using water, then read the water meter. Check it again after 30 minutes without using any water. If the reading has moved, water is escaping somewhere.
How we find it
- Acoustic equipment listens for the sound of water escaping under pressure.
- Thermal imaging picks up the temperature trace of hot water pipes and leaks.
- Moisture meters map where walls and floors are actually wet.
Then the repair
Once we know where it is, we repair it. Our vehicles carry most parts and fittings, so the repair is usually done on the same visit. If the leak turns out to be a drain rather than a pressure pipe, see blocked drains.
