Hydro-jetting for sewer, waste & storm water lines

High pressure water blasts out even the most stubborn blockages, including grease, roots, sand and silt, and scours the pipe clean instead of just punching a hole through.

What is hydro-jetting?

Hydro-jetting sends water at very high pressure through a flexible hose to a specialised nozzle inside the drain. Jets from the nozzle cut through the blockage and scour the pipe walls, and the debris is flushed away down the line.

We have trailer-mounted as well as portable jetter machines, equipped with state-of-the-art flexible hoses, pumps and nozzles, so we can handle long main sewer lines as well as tight spots.

When hydro-jetting is the right tool

  • Grease build-up in kitchen waste lines.
  • Sand, silt and leaves in storm water drains.
  • Fine roots growing into sewer lines.
  • Drains that keep blocking after they've been cleared.
  • Long or heavily fouled main sewer lines.

Hydro-jetting vs. snaking

A rooter machine (a "snake") is quick and effective for many blockages: it cuts a path through so water flows again. But grease, sludge and silt stay stuck to the pipe walls, and the drain often blocks again. Hydro-jetting cleans the full width of the pipe, so it's usually the better choice for recurring problems. We carry both and use whichever suits the job. See blocked drains for how we approach a typical blockage.

How a jetting job works

  1. Assess the line. We find the best access point and work out what's in the pipe. If we suspect a break, we check it with our CCTV camera first.
  2. Jet it clean. We choose the nozzle and pressure to suit the pipe and the blockage, and work through the line.
  3. Flush and check. The debris is flushed away and we check that the line is flowing freely again.

FAQ

Hydro-jetting: common questions

Is hydro-jetting safe for my pipes?

In sound pipes, yes. We match the nozzle and pressure to the pipe and the blockage. If we suspect a pipe is cracked or collapsed, we check it with our CCTV camera first.

Can hydro-jetting remove tree roots?

It clears fine roots and the debris they catch. Where roots have broken into a pipe, the damaged section usually needs repairing, and a CCTV inspection shows exactly where that is.

Do you jet storm water drains?

Yes. We jet sewer, waste and storm water lines. Storm water drains full of sand, leaves and silt are a common job.

What's the difference between hydro-jetting and snaking?

Snaking cuts a path through the blockage so water flows again. Hydro-jetting scours the whole pipe clean, which makes it better for grease, silt and drains that keep blocking.
